that amount, charlie, do you think the debatesville a big impact? unless somebody makes a huge gaffe, probably not? >> i think probably not. but i think the larger current that the polls are not going to pick up because we are too far out is the fact that in an election like this, where have you a lot of dissatisfaction, which is why, i think, a lot of the very, very interested voters are with romney is because, a lot of romney supporters are driven by deep dissatisfaction with obama. so what i think will happen as we get close tortes election is a lot like what happened in 1980, where the voters tend to break and they tend to break hard in an election like this. i think that given the environment, they will break away from the incumbent. >> we hear anecdoteally that we have the v.p. debate will have more comedic. which debate will be the most? >> the first presidential. it's the first time to see mitt romney and president obama. >> joe biden will say anything, which is why he is so enjoyable. he says everything -- >> so much to that date against sa

charlie? >> nancy, we've heard from mitt romney's campaign who said these numbers show that this is not what a real recovery looks like. they point out that he has created fewer jobs in september than in august and fewer jobs in august than in july. how do you think this plays out on the campaign trail since the main argument that mitt romney has against the president is that he can't fix the economy? >> reporter: well, the romney campaign and republicans in general, you can see they're trying to be very careful about these numbers. they don't want to look like they're cheerleading against positive economic news but they want to continue to press the point that they don't think that this recovery as you said, is happening fast enough. in that statement from governor romney this morning is likely to say something similar at a rally in virginia. he is in virginia as well this morning. he is going to say this is not what a real recovery looks like. if not for all the people who simply dropped out

norah, charlie, gayle? >> bill plante, thank you. >>> also in denver, major garrett, national journalist white house correspondent. good morning. >> good morning. >> so, what does the romney campaign have to do now to take advantage of what everybody believes was a victory in the debate? >> well, charlie, there's a very simple answer to that, and two romney campaign officials told it to me before the debate started -- if this night works for us, our biggest challenge will be not dousing the flame we've set tonight, meaning they know that they've internally messed up advantages and advantageous moments mitt romney set for his campaign. so, they know now the most important thing between this debate and the next one is not to blow the momentum, to enhance it, blow on the fire and make it larger and not douse it. that's the biggest challenge the romney campaign faces. >> what's the challenge for the obama campaign? >> to bounce back. two very significant democrats i talked to last night looking at the debate sa
